Introvigne's friendship with right-wing media tycoon Berlusconi blossoms

Massimo Introvigne has always claimed to be a detached
scholar. However, in recent years, an increasing number of sources have
claimed that Introvigne is not so neutral after all, being closely involved
with the political Right.
Is this so?
Here is what an article recently published in the
prestigious Milan daily Corriere della Sera (January 19th,
1999) has to say about the matter.
Silvio Berlusconi is the well-known media tycoon
who virtually created the Italian Right some years ago, around the party
called "Forza Italia", a name invented by using the favourite slogan of
fans of the national soccer team. Arcore is where the picturesque villa
of the multi-millionaire is located.
Berlusconi, a Foundation "alternative
to the Left" is born
The name will be "Nova Res Publica"
and its task will be to expand the political action of Forza Italia, drawing
from the "historical and cultural heritage of Italian free-market thinking
and of moderate ideas of Christian inspiration".
Founded thanks to the determined intention
of Silvio Berlusconi, this new foundation - which will be presented next
Monday at Arcore by the leader of Forza Italia - brings together scholars
from economical, legal and social/political disciplines, and intends to
provide "an alternative to Left-wing thinking." The Foundation will promote
meetings, debates and seminars involving political leaders, businessmen
and academic scholars. The technical scientific committee includes Vittorio
Mathieu, Piero Melograni, Giulio Tremonti, Giuliano Urbani, Luigi Compagna,
Massimo Introvigne, Franco Romani.
